On 11-13 February 2026, PT Musi Hutan Persada, in collaboration with the South Sumatra Provincial Forestry Service, conducted a Study Tour on Handling Negative Interactions between Humans and Elephants. This activity involved communities located in areas prone to negative interactions with elephants, specifically Tri Anggun Jaya Village (SP-5 HTI), Bumi Makmur Village (SP-6 HTI), and Suban Ulu Village (Semangus Baru).
The activity was held in Rantau Jaya Udik II Village, located near Way Kambas National Park (TNWK) in Lampung Province, and was facilitated by the World Conservation Society (WCS).
In addition, stakeholders involved in the Benakat Semangus elephant habitat landscape also participated, such as PT Pertamina EP Zone 4, PT Medco E&P, PT Bara Sumatera Energi, and UPTD KPH Region XII Benakat.
During the activity, participants, especially community members, gained knowledge about management and strategies for handling negative interactions with elephants. It was interesting to see how participants from the Benakat Semangus landscape and Rantau Jaya Udik II Village shared their knowledge and experiences on how community independence is built from awareness, wisdom, and prudence, which are applied in the lives of communities and village institutions.
This activity is one of PT Musi Hutan Persada's efforts to mitigate negative interactions between humans and elephants, part of the company's commitment to biodiversity conservation.
